General Otolaryngology is the field of medicine that takes care of disorders of the ear, nose, and throat.
Other names are ENT, otolaryngology, otorhinolaryngology, ORL, or Head and Neck.
Tumors of the throat and neck are common otolaryngology problems.
Thyroid nodules are common ENT problems. Saliva gland problems are also regularly seen in the ENT office. Snoring and obstructive sleep apnea are frequently diagnosed and treated by otolaryngology physicians.
Some ENT physicians treat only adults. Some ENT physicians treat children only. Dr. Go treats both adults and children.
Otolaryngology is a specialty that covers a lot of fields. Neuro-otology is the care of inner ear problems. Advances in signal processing and software have improved hearing aid function and help patients hear better.
Some hearing aids can now be adjusted with a smart phone to help improve hearing in different environments. Many small sizes and personalized features are now available, so that each individual can have a customized solution for hearing loss.
Rhinology is the care of nose and sinus problems. There have been many breakthroughs in the care of nose and sinus problems. New minimally invasive techniques may help improve the symptoms of chronic sinus problems with procedures that usually have very short recovery and no hospital stay.
Laryngology is the study of the vocal cords and throat. Otolaryngologists are also skilled in facial plastic surgery and in plastic surgery within the head and neck. Dr. Go provides medical, minimally invasive, and surgery services. He tries to tailor the approach to each individual patient’s needs.
Many years ago the field was called EENT for eyes, ear, nose, and throat. Eye is now the separate field of ophthalmology. Moreover, ophthalmology now has many sub-specialties such as cornea.
